All Roads (2011)

All year i have been tracking each day's ride on the map, using my Topo mapping program. After each ride i either draw my route in, or if i brought the GPS along, i import the route from the unit. I combined the maps each month. This has created some fascinating maps, including my discovery that i had, in the course of my daily riding, covered every street in the seven neighborhood district of Capitol Hill. Now i have combined the monthly maps to create a single map of all routes ridden for the calendar year 2011. Here's the big view (with the loops in Portland OR cut off.).  (As always with images in Blogger, clicking on the image will show you a larger version).

Next i'll zoom in and show just the city limits of Seattle.  I like the way the connector routes show up and the neighborhoods all merge together into a blot.  I suppose it shows the extent of my movements even better than mobile phone tracking does!

And finally i zoomed in to the central neighborhoods where i spend most of my time, zoomed in so that blocks start to take shape.
I love what this data shows me.  It's been a lot of work drawing every day's route and i think it paid off.  But i'm probably not going to do it for 2012.
